Josef Behrmann Lecture

Historian Professor Miri Rubin brought the Middle Ages vividly to life when she delivered the second annual Josef Behrmann Lecture. The lecture series honours the late Josef Behrmann, an Old Persean who survived the Nazi death camps and went on to give evidence for the prosecution at Nuremberg.

An Indian summer’s eve provided the perfect backdrop for the Old Persean Annual Dinner – a golden celebration marking 50 years at Hills Road. On Saturday 1st October, we will be holding a special Old Persean Dinner to mark 50 years since the official royal opening of the school buildings on the current Hills Road Site. To help celebrate the occasion, we are pleased to be able to offer a free bottle of champagne for Old Perseans who organise a group of 10 or more to attend. Spouses, partners and friends are also welcome to the event which takes place at The Perse School.
OP Open Day & Cricket Match

OPs of all ages gathered at The Perse Upper School last Wednesday for the annual OP Open Day and Cricket Match. The event began with afternoon tea being served in the marquee whilst a jazz band of current Perse musicians provided entertainment. OPs were then given the option of a tour of the school, viewing Eric Mival's nostalgic 'The Perse School Year' in the lecture theatre, or relaxing whilst watching the Old Boys vs. Perse cricket matches. Boarders' Reunion - 92 Glebe Road

Over 60 guests attended a special Boarders' Reunion at The Pelican School, formally Hillel House and then Junior House on Saturday 18th June. OPs from 1943 to 1994 gathered at 92 Glebe Road for a luncheon and photographic display of their time as boarders. Sir Mark Potter entertained guests with amusing anecdotes of his time spent at The Perse and Boarding House and OPs then had the opportunity to explore their old living quarters and dormitories.
Perse in London - OPs' Reunion at Lincoln's Inn

On 19th May, over 160 OPs attended our second Perse in London Evening in the stunning surroundings of Old Hall, Lincoln’s Inn. Our guest speaker was Hollywood actor and director, Colin McFarlane, OP, who entertained guests with anecdotes about his time at the school. OPs met old school friends they had not seen for many years in an atmosphere that was buzzing with recollections of a previous life at school. Perse in Oxford Reunion Success

Over 60 people attended our recent Perse in Oxford Reunion in the opulent surroundings of The Pitt Rivers Museum. Andrew Wilson (OP 1986) and Professor of the Archaeology of the Roman Empire was our guest speaker, and reminisced about his time at The Perse and the teachers that influenced his career decisions. Guests enjoyed the stunning ambiance of the museum which houses one of the world's greatest collections of exhibitions and artefacts.

Over 150 Year 11 (Fifth Form) and Sixth Form students and their parents attended the Perse School’s annual Careers Convention last night. Held in the Upper school hall, 40 delegates representing different careers sat at desks where the students and parents could sit and chat with them about the delegates’ roles.

The new Dr Rouse Library hosted a champagne reception with Perse pupil and harpist, William Jackson, serenading guests as they arrived. OP James van der Hoorn has flown into the record books by visiting 11 countries in just 24 hours by piloting a single-engine plane. Cambridge to Casablanca: The ‘Grand Departure’

Six young cyclists from Cambridge are setting off on a 28 day expedition to Casablanca, Morocco in the hope of raising £5,000 for Acorn House, The Sick Children’s Trust hostel at Addenbrooke’s Hospital. Bristol OP Reunion

Old Perseans in the Bristol area met together at Bristol Zoo Gardens on Saturday 22nd May. Young and old mingled in the colonial surroundings of the Clifton Pavilion within Bristol Zoo grounds. The event involved a film show, memorabilia, Lego building, brain teasers and high tea to complete the afternoon. A complimentary visit to the zoo was also included during the event which many attended.
Perse London Professionals Evening 2010

The Perse London Professionals Evening 2010 took place at the Royal Automobile Club, London on 20th May. The drinks reception was attended by past and present members of the Perse community who work in London. Guests chatted with friends and met with others who work in areas such as finance, business, accounting, media and law. The evening was hosted by Michael Pooles, QC, and included a brief address by The Hon. Mr Justice Lloyd Jones. Guests enjoyed complimentary drinks and canapés.

Attendees of the OP Cambridge Open Day 2010 were treated to a guided tour of the Histon Manor estate (the home of former Headmaster Dr Rouse (1902-1928). The traditional AGM and lunch were held at the school, where OPs enjoyed fresh salmon, roast beef, and lemon and raspberry tart, accompanied by wine and home-made lemonade. Peter Biggs gave a tour of the immaculate Manor gardens, where OPs meandered through the Manor's own woodland, wandered through the secret garden and admired the old moat.

"Solo" Wins Commonwealth Writers' Prize

Old Persean Rana Dasgupta who studied at the Perse from 1979-1990 has been awarded the international title of Best Book for his novel "Solo" by the Commonwealth Foundation, who organised and funded the 2010 Commonwealth Writers' Prize.
